Scott Pruitt, a lobbyist, and CSNY: “Our House”

Scott Pruitt, a lobbyist, and CSNY: "Our House"

In 2003 Scott Pruitt, then an Oklahoma state senator, bought and shared a house with a lobbyist who represented companies seeking changes to the state’s worker compensation laws. Pruitt advocated for those changes without revealing his conflict of interest.

That’s perfectly in character for the notoriously corrupt Pruitt, of course. But when I saw The Hill‘s headline, “Pruitt once bought house with Oklahoma lobbyist,” I immediately thought of the song “Our House,” by Crosby, Stills and Nash, and realized it needs an update to reflect our times.  So here’s Scott Pruitt’s version of “Our House,” followed by a video of Crosby, Stills and Nash playing the original version.

Scott Pruitt’s “Our House”

I’ll light the fire, you place the money in the case that you bought today.
Staring at the cash for hours and hours while I listen to you
Play big oil songs all night long for me, only for me.

Come to me now and write it down for just five minutes, everything is done.
Such a cozy room, the diamonds are illuminated by the evening
Sunshine through them, fiery gems for me, only for me.

Our house, is a very, very, very fine house
With two guards in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy cause of you and our
La, la, it’s a secret la la la la la la….

Our house, is a very, very, very fine house
With two guards in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy cause of you and our

I’ll light the fire, you place the money in the case that you bought today.

About the author

David Backes

I have always been drawn to where the wild things are: the natural world around me, and the wilderness within. As a writer, speaker, and university professor, I have for decades focused on this combination of nature and the human spirit. In recent years, my spiritual journey has added another lens: social, environmental and intergenerational justice. Put it all together and you’ve got The Earth Keeper, a blog of integral ecology and the prophetic imagination. The Earth Keeper may at times make you feel hopeful or inspired; it may make you feel uncomfortable or defensive or even angry. I hope it often will be challenging, and always interesting.
